EME 2040: Intro to Educational Technology
Coming into the course I had the idea that there was a field in educational technology yet, I had no idea or real understanding of the significance or magnitude of this field holds. After participating in this course my impression of the education technology field is that it is a field that can mold and shape our society. That this field oversees creating, distributing, and teaching the public on all levels how to utilize new and existing technology. A field that sets the foreground for what everyone else learns from.
Throughout this course, I learned a great deal of information regarding how to use different programs such as Adobe Photoshop, iMovie, PowerPoint, and Google Workplaces. Through this course, I was able to learn about these different programs, and how to use them, and got the opportunity to practice these learned skills through the completion of the projects and assignments completed throughout the course.
In more detail from the Images project, I was able to learn a great deal about Adobe Photoshop. I was able to learn about the tools within the program and more specifically how to use them to create projects and images. Learning this not only helped me succeed on the assignment but now acts as a tool that can be used in my future public relations career. An example of this is in pitches. As I plan to become a public relations professional a big part of my career will be creating pitches for other companies to adopt and part of a pitch is providing image examples. Now having Photoshop experience puts me ahead in my career endeavors
This learning process continued through the Digital storytelling project where I had the opportunity to further my knowledge in iMovie. This project allowed me to home in on using skills within iMovie to create a professional-looking video that told a story. From this, I was able to practice my known skills within iMovie and learn more skills within the program. I plan to use these skills learned from this project in my career by utilizing these skills to make videos as a presentation method when needed. These skills can aid at both the group and individual levels.
Furthermore, I learned a great deal of information about productivity tools and how to use them to their full ability through the Google Docs Project. Here I was able to learn how to fully utilize Google Workspace apps like Docs, Slides, Forms, and Calendar. Through this project, I learned that these applications have much greater use than I originally thought. I plan to use all of these applications in my future career whether this is creating documents or presentations for my leader or creating surveys to gauge my fellow employees’ opinions of creating calendars for the completion of work projects.
