Digital Storytelling

Digital Storytelling: Dance Marathon

For the digital storytelling project, I created a video that highlights the story behind Dance Marathon at the University of Florida. I created this story as a way of showcasing all the amazing elements and features Dance Marathon has to offer. This story was created with the intent of it acting as a video to be shared with UF students providing them with knowledge and reason to join the organization.

To create this digital story, I implemented the functions of iMovie. iMovie is a free video creation tool that allows novice video editors to combine video, photos, voice recording, and music to create professional-looking videos. I decided to utilize iMovie as my tool for creation as it was a familiar outlet that best suited my media sources.

In the creation of this story, I first researched Dance Marathon at UF through its website and social media outlets as well as reflecting on my own experiences with the organization. Doing this allowed me to gather accurate information on the cause that helped create an accurate presentation of the organization. On the visual end, many of the photos from this story were either my own and gathered through the years of my participation or found through the Dance Marathon at UF website.

In coming up with the design and creating the video I considered many images and design aspects such as the transitions, time length of photos, and music choices before inserting anything into my video. My decisions were guided by the fact that iMovie provides the creator with numerous different design elements to aid in the creation of the best video possible such as the transitions that make the change from pictures less choppy.
